We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past your home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
