I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
