We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a reservation. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been much like you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would disrupt me now, and say that many women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
