We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been much like you. We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that many ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
