After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her hubby and is in the procedure of moving.
