We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her husband and is in the procedure of moving.
