I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of females in the house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of everything. I believe it's time I provided you a total image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her hubby and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
