We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had actually been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to finish with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I established a problem with my knee. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-lasting ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The very first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. In the third week, a despair started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women in your home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not understand the half of it all. I think it's time I offered you a total picture of our street and individuals who live on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this website is the removed house where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge.
