We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never talked to him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
