The very first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that accumulate done. Then in the third week, a despair began to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have 2 replies. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her hubby and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke to him, despite the fact that what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
