We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would disrupt me now, and state that many women at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her husband and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time.
