From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
