We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
