With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all).
