We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been just like you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continually when the depression set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her hubby and remains in the procedure of moving.
