After smoking almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of women in your home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies.
