All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had actually been much like you. Triggering to work every day, worried more about what I was going to finish with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The very first few weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. In the third week, a malaise began to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. I never spoke with him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
