We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would disrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
