We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't understand the half of everything. I think it's time I offered you a total picture of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in helpful in the future. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
