We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After cigarette smoking practically continually when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that most females at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her partner and remains in the process of moving.
