All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been just like you. Triggering to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would depend on. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little jobs that accumulate done. Then in the third week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This implies that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
