We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking nearly constantly when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and say that most women at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I talked to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke with him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
