All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had actually been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would depend on. Then in the 3rd week, a malaise began to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that most ladies at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
