We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been much like you. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the depression embeded in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would disrupt me now, and say that many women at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
