We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would disrupt me now, and say that many ladies at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her spouse and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
