With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and state that many females at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
