We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that most ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of it all. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her other half and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never talked to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
