We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second idea. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
