In the 3rd week, a malaise began to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her spouse and is in the procedure of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. I never ever spoke to him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
