With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. It will can be found in useful later on. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
