In the 3rd week, a despair started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that most women in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her husband and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time.
