We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been similar to you. Then in the third week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. I started to choose up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her other half and is in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City. I never spoke with him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
