We have a no smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continually when the depression set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your house. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat.
