We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her partner and is in the procedure of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke with him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
