We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking practically constantly when the depression set in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.
