With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
