We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her husband and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never talked to him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
