All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. The very first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little jobs that pile up done. Then in the third week, a despair started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking almost constantly when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would interrupt me now, and say that many females at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
