We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would disrupt me now, and state that most ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her partner and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke with him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
