We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been much like you. Triggering to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious issue. Then in the 3rd week, a despair began to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking nearly continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
