We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a doubt. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. In the third week, a malaise began to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the anxiety set in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. She recently separated from her husband and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time.
