After smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past your house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of women in your home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies.
