This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that most females at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her partner and is in the procedure of moving.
