All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a doubt. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been just like you. A semi-serious issue. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could walk, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The first couple of weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little jobs that pile up done. Then in the 3rd week, a despair started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continually when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not know the half of all of it. I believe it's time I provided you a complete picture of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will can be found in helpful later on. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her spouse and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
