All of us accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would depend on. I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, which in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-lasting sick, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The first couple of weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little jobs that accumulate done. Then in the 3rd week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that most ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her spouse and remains in the procedure of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever spoke to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
