With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy deal with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
