We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of females in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not know the half of it all. I think it's time I gave you a total picture of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in useful later on. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke to him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
