I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past your home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.
