We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking almost continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would interrupt me now, and state that most women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her spouse and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
