We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been similar to you. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression embeded in, I started to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that most females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
