We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After cigarette smoking almost continuously when the anxiety set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past your home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that many women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't understand the half of it all. I believe it's time I gave you a complete photo of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will come in useful later on. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
