All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had actually been similar to you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could walk, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-term sick, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The first couple of weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. In the 3rd week, a despair began to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would interrupt me now, and state that most females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this website is the removed house where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
