We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After cigarette smoking practically constantly when the anxiety set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
