We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. We have a no smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking nearly constantly when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
