With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of women at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other females. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
