We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. After smoking practically continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of women at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her husband and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never talked to him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
